University of Oregon Traditions and History:
 |
The University of Oregon is home to one of the finest
collegiate athletic programs in the nation. With each season, the Ducks build on a tradit- ion of academic
and athletic excelle- nce. In fact, the last five years have seen the ducks capture Pacific-10 championships
in football, men’s basketball, and men’s track. The success of Duck sports teams para- llel the accomplishments
of Univer- sity of Oregon student athletes. Fam- ous athletes, such as Olympian Steve Prefontaine (track),
NFL stars Joey Harrington, Ahmad Rashad, and Dan Fouts, NBA stars Terrell Brandon, Frederick Jones, and
Luke Ridnour, and recent WNBA signee Cathrine Kraayeveld, all were Ducks.
The University of Oregon Athletic Department welcomes prospective student-athletes, parents, and boost- ers to
learn more about becoming a duck. The recruiting links and gen- eral links section of this page conta- in
information about applying to the University of Oregon, athletic scholarships and financial aid, and
contact information.

Donald Duck:
Even though the uniforms have chan- ged, no longer bearing his
fighting countenance bursting through the block "O" logo, Donald Duck remai- ns as one of the most recognizable
and lovable mascots on the collegiate sports landscape.
Before Donald came to Eugene, tha- nks to the benevolence of Walt Disney, no duck seemed destined to
represent the school as its mascot. In fact, during the University's early days, Oregon's pride was tied
to a patriotic band of New England anglers with soggy soles. University students re-ferred to themselves
as Webfooters. |
